Create an image with Grok Imagine Image 2.0 before you continue.

Version note: This page covers the Image 2.0 release and its text-to-image and image-to-image workflows. For the broader Grok Imagine family context and version overview, see the Grok Imagine model guide.

Grok Imagine Image 2.0 is KIE's current Grok Imagine image endpoint for both text-to-image generation and image-to-image editing. It gives a single model family entry point for creating a new image from a prompt or transforming one or more uploaded reference images with natural-language instructions.

What Grok Imagine Image 2.0 Supports

KIE publishes separate playground and API surfaces for the two workflows:

  • Text to Image: describe the scene, subject, style, and composition in a prompt.
  • Image to Image: upload reference images and describe the transformation you want to make.

The two routes are exposed in KIE's official API documentation as Grok Imagine Image 2.0 Text to Image and Grok Imagine Image 2.0 Image to Image. KIE also lists separate segment-map and segment-edit routes; VioEvo does not expose those specialized operations in this release.

Text-to-Image Workflow

Start with the subject and action, then add the visual treatment and framing that matter to the result. A useful prompt describes the scene in concrete terms instead of relying on a list of abstract style words.

Example: A studio product photograph of a cobalt travel kettle on a pale stone table, soft morning window light, crisp stainless-steel details, editorial catalog composition.

Use the aspect-ratio control when the destination format matters. For posters, social posts, product cards, or landscape headers, choosing the target composition before generation gives the model a clearer spatial constraint than cropping afterward.

Image-to-Image Editing

Image-to-image is the right workflow when an existing image supplies the subject, product, character, or composition that must remain recognizable. Upload the source image, then describe the desired change: background replacement, lighting adjustment, styling, object removal, or a controlled restyle.

Keep the edit instruction focused. State what should change and what must remain stable. For example: Replace the background with a warm sunset gradient, keep the product shape and logo unchanged, and add a soft contact shadow beneath it.

VioEvo accepts one to five reference images for this capability. This input limit is a VioEvo execution contract; consult the provider page before relying on additional provider-specific inputs.

Costs and Availability in VioEvo

VioEvo uses the same user-credit policy for both Image 2.0 workflows as the previous standard Grok image paths: 15 credits per generated image. The retired Quality tier is no longer offered as a separate T2I option. Existing jobs retain their original model identifiers for history and audit purposes, but a retired model cannot be retried after it has been disabled.

Choosing the Right Workflow

Choose Text to Image when there is no source image and the prompt should define the complete composition. Choose Image to Image when preserving a source subject or making a targeted visual change is more important than generating from scratch.

For video, use the separate Grok Imagine Video 1.5 guide. It is a different provider model with a different input contract, even though both models belong to the Grok Imagine family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Grok Imagine Image 2.0 the same as the old Grok Imagine image model?

No. VioEvo registers Image 2.0 as a new versioned model and keeps the previous capability records disabled for historical compatibility.

Should I use image-to-image for editing?

Yes. Use image-to-image whenever an uploaded image is part of the intended result. Text-to-image is for creating the image from the prompt alone.

Does Image 2.0 replace the old Quality option?

Yes. VioEvo now exposes one standard Image 2.0 T2I option instead of a separate grok-imagine-image-quality product.
